History Of Texas Holdem
Texas holdem is one of the most popular card game played by most of the people all over the world. However, the origin of texas holdem is not clear. But it is believed to have originated from Texas. The history of texas holdem can be precisely traced back to the 19th century Texas. According to the historian, the first game of texas holdem was played in a small town called Robstown, Texas during 1900s. By 1925, the game reached the bigger city of Dallas and attracts large number of people.
In the texas holdem history, the game was popular amongst the cowboys, miners all over the southwest of U.S during 1920s. They played the game at saloons and the game was also named as “Devils River” in some parts of the country. The game of texas holdem gained a huge popularity in 1970 with the creation of World Series of Poker in 1970 and in the same year the Horseshoe Hotel and Casino was opened in Las Vegas by Benny Binion. In the history of texas holdem, Benny Binion for the first time sponsored the World Series of Poker tournament in 1972, publicizing the game of texas holdem. There were only eight players in this tournament. But by 2002, the tournament attracted up to 800 players. Popularity statistics show that over the past five years, the popularity of televised tournaments has grown, in turn meaning that texas holdem has grown in popularity too, becoming a part of mainstream television.
With the coming of online poker, texas holdem also gained a huge popularity. Today, texas holdem attracts thousands of players around the world every year through annual events and other, more subdued activities. Today, the practice of playing texas holdem is as common as any other form of gambling. However, more and more Texas Hold ’em Poker Tournaments have developed on a global scale on land and online and many people are trying to get in on the action.
